Volunteering with Breaking Barriers

We’re looking for volunteers to help refugees find the employment they deserve.

It’s a staggering statistic; 70% of refugees, all with a legal right to work, are unemployed in London. At Breaking Barriers we’re changing this. Our team of Advice and Guidance volunteers help clients achieve their career aspirations, supporting and being part of their journey to meaningful employment.

” … it’s an amazing experience, extremely valuable, you get to
meet people from all over the world.”

Eva, Volunteer.

Each situation is unique and every session is different. As a volunteer, you’d help clients with CV writing, interview prep and practice, and helping clients get familiar with UK work culture. This all happens with other volunteers at our busy centres in Clapham Junction or Shoreditch, during 1 :1, 2-hour appointments.

We know that employment can provide people with a renewed sense of hope and purpose, and as a volunteer you’d be directly helping to provide this for refugees.

Volunteers get full training and support, and we look for people who can come along every week or so for 3-6 months. Volunteering takes place on Thursdays between 10am-5pm, but exact times are flexible.
