When it comes to fundraising, pooling your ideas, efforts and enthusiasm with colleagues can make a big difference. Raising money as a team can also help everyone involved to build connections, learn new skills and have fun.

If you’d like to fundraise through a physical challenge, check out our Challenge Events page. From half marathons to bungee jumps, there’s an activity for (almost!) everyone. And, once you’ve chosen your event, we can even create tailored registration pages for your company. Just get in touch to find out more.

Alternatively, on this page we share some less energetic fundraising ideas, as well as tips for successful workplace fundraising and advice on donating your proceeds.

Whatever way you and your colleagues choose to fundraise for refugees, do let us know. We’ll be here to help you from start to finish!

Tasty ideas

Would your team enjoy a World Foods Bake Sale or Great Business Bake Off? We can provide recipes to get you started.

How about a Pot luck lunch? Get together, bring in dishes, and offer a unique and delicious meal for the price of a standard lunchtime sandwich!

Or you could get everyone guessing... Whether it’s the weight of the cake or the number of sweets in the jar, some ideas never get stale!

Activities for all

We love a Lunch & learn! What surprising talents, skills or hobbies could your team share in exchange for donations from colleagues?

Who’d be a whizz at running a quiz? Whether it’s high-brow or low-brow, online or in-person quizzes are a great way to add buzz to an event or mark a seasonal occasion.

And, of course, you can even raise funds from workplace quirks! Why not organise an I-Spy or Office Bingo competition? Triple points for…?

Who's feeling lucky?

How about a sporty sweepstake? Football? Tennis? Cricket? There are so many big sporting events to choose from, and we’re happy to help with ideas!

Or, for something (slightly) more active, you could up-the-ante with an Office Olympics competition. Avoid health and safety issues with Rock Paper Scissors, Speed Typing and Basket Paper Ball!

And, after all that, your team will have earned a rest. So, could you raffle an extra day’s holiday?

Other ways to give at work

Does your company have a payroll giving or volunteer rewards scheme? If so, you can make an impact for refugees with tax-efficient donations from your salary, or through donations made by your company when you volunteer your time.

And, whatever your fundraising event or activity, don't forget to check if your employer will offer to match what you raise. Many businesses will make a their own donation when staff raise money or make a gift to charity. This could double - or sometimes even triple - your impact!

Tips for workplace fundraising

  • Fundraising online? It’s easy to create a donation page on JustGiving or another platform of your choice. We can help – just get in touch!
  • Use email and Teams to tell your colleagues or networks how they can take part in your fundraiser, sponsor you or spread the word.
  • Ask your company to help. Your employer could raise awareness of your fundraiser via their social media channels, in a staff newsletter, on your intranet, or even tell clients, customers or suppliers.
  • Flyers and posters can attract attention in the workplace. Let us know if you’d like help creating promotional materials.
  • Be aware of cultural considerations. For example, fundraising through sweepstakes or games of chance may be haram for Muslims. Involving as many colleagues as possible in planning your fundraiser can make it work for everyone.
  • Remember to ask us for help, and please share the results of your fundraiser with us – we’d love to celebrate your efforts on social media!

Donating the proceeds of your fundraiser

Firstly, thank you so much for fundraising to help refugees build new lives. Every penny makes a difference.

If you’ve received sponsorship or contributions online or via a workplace giving platform, these will automatically be sent to Breaking Barriers by the fundraising platform you chose.

Alternatively, if you raised money in the ‘real world’, please use this form to make an equivalent donation online. You can then simply keep the cash you raised.

If you have any problems making a donation online, please contact us. And thank you so much, in advance, for the proceeds of your fantastic fundraiser!
