As an Advice and Guidance Volunteer, you will support refugees and people from refugee backgrounds. You will help them navigate the UK job market and work towards their career goals by leading on one-to-one general sessions and help take part in fortnightly Job Club.

General support includes, in collaboration with clients, searching for and applying to jobs, CV and cover letter writing, and interview preparation.

It is a varied role that is suitable for those who are comfortable with supporting different client at each session using the information shared with them prior to an appointment.

The below information and role description here will give you more information on the type of tasks you will be undertaking in this role as well as the support you will get from us in return.


Commitment

We ask for a commitment of 2-4 appointments per month for a minimum of 6 months. All our appointments are scheduled between 10:00am and 5:00pm on specific weekdays. A typical appointment is 1-1.5 hours long. Please see priority days we are currently recruiting for in this role:

    • Birmingham: Tuesdays and Thursdays
    • Greater Manchester: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
    • London: Wednesdays, Thursdays and occasional Fridays

Location

    • Birmingham: x+why Foundry, 6 Brindley Place, Birmingham B1 2JB
    • Greater Manchester: Clockwise, Linley House (1st Floor), Dickinson Street, Manchester M1 4LF
    • London: WeWork, 71-91 Aldwych, London WC2B 4HN

Requirements 

    • Experience of working in the UK
    • Knowledge of UK job market and recruitment processes
    • Experience or interest in helping with CVs, cover letters, and job applications
    • Can-do attitude and problem-solving mindset
    • Attention to detail
    • Excellent communication and listening skills
    • Ability to act with compassion, adapt your approach to suit clients and the ability to put people at ease
    • Reliability, flexibility and problem-solving skills
    • Basic IT skills and access to a laptop or computer with webcam
    • Alignment with BB’s mission to help refugees acquire the knowledge, confidence and experience to get stable, fulfilling employment
