Breaking Barriers statement on recent violence across the UK
We are shaken and deeply saddened by the recent attacks on asylum seekers' accommodations and other communities. To everyone from a refugee background and those seeking asylum: we stand with you.
We are shaken and deeply saddened by the recent attacks on asylum seekers’ accommodations and other communities. To everyone from a refugee background and those seeking asylum: we stand with you.
Acts of violence and hate are being targeted at Muslims, People of Colour and people seeking asylum. They are organised by a minority on the far-right, and do not reflect the true values of our society.
Many of our team and our refugee clients are impacted by these events, as are people across the country. We encourage everyone to check in on colleagues, friends and family who may feel unsafe or worried about being at home, commuting or attending the workplace, or who may find it hard to give their all while this continues. Let them know you care and that you stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them.
We believe in a better world, and we are forever grateful for our many supporters who we know stand against racism and hate. Together we can create a better, safer, and more compassionate society for everyone.
We will leave you with a comment from one of our team:
I dream of a world where peace and security are accessible to everyone. I strongly believe in the core values upon which this nation is built, and I am confident that the violence and hatred we’re witnessing do not represent the true spirit of the UK or its people.
