North West RSMP: unlocking potential through partnership
Our work with the North West RSMP has been central to supporting Hong Kong BN(O) visa holders in Greater Manchester. Joseph Sheehan and Mandira Hughes reflect on the collaboration.
The North West Regional Strategic Migration Partnership (RSMP) is a dynamic alliance working with councils and a diverse network of statutory, voluntary, community, and private sector organisations to support refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in the North West of England.
We collaborated with RSMP on the HK Pathways programme, developed to assist holders of the Hong Kong British National (Overseas) [BN(O)] visa who have settled in North West England. The UK government introduced the BN(O) visa in response to the 2020 National Security Law in Hong Kong, providing a route for eligible individuals and their families to settle, work, and study in the UK.
Since partnering on this initiative, we have provided tailored employment support to around 70 Hong Kongers in Greater Manchester, resulting in almost 40 securing positive outcomes. Through personalised, one-to-one guidance and innovative collaborations, such as our joint project with IKEA, we’re seeing the positive impact of our efforts: opportunities created, barriers overcome, and lives transformed.
In this video interview, Joseph Sheehan, Hong Kong BN(O) Programme Lead, and Mandira Hughes, Employment Project Manager, from RSMP reflect on what powers our partnership, the tangible outcomes we’re achieving, and how our shared dedication is helping refugees find hope and opportunity within Greater Manchester’s vibrant community.
