About Megascops Stangaie
The Amazon is burning – and the impact is felt far away, with climate change a significant cause of forced migration. It’s also felt incredibly close. Migrate Art founder, Simon Butler, spent three weeks with the Indigenous Xingu communities of the Amazon who have been deeply affected by deforestation within their home.
To shed new light to this devastating reality, Simon collected charcoal and ashes from burnt areas of the rainforest. These were then used to create paint, ink, pigment and pastels, which were given to a range of contemporary artists to produce new works.
‘Megascops Stangaie’, created by Sarah Ball, showcases the artist’s distinctive approach to portraiture. It was auctioned to raise funds for Migrate Art’s charity partners.
Fifty signed, photopolymer gravure etching prints were also produced, and a number of these prints are now available to purchase to support Breaking Barriers’ work with refugees.

Sarah Ball is a British painter who lives and works near Penzance, Cornwall. Her meticulously rendered portraits explore themes of gender, identity and self-expression. Her work is held in public collections including the British Museum, Hepworth Wakefield, and the Long Museum, Shanghai.
