Art that responds to a changing world

The Amazon is burning – and the impact is felt far away, with climate change a significant cause of forced migration. It’s also felt incredibly close. Migrate Art founder, Simon Butler, spent three weeks with the Indigenous Xingu communities of the Amazon who have been deeply affected by deforestation within their home.

To shed new light to this devastating reality, Simon collected charcoal and ashes from burnt areas of the rainforest. These were then used to create paint, ink, pigment and pastels, which were given to a range of contemporary artists to produce new works.

‘Ashes from Ashes’ is a trilogy by Stanley Donwood, each produced as a limited edition screen print using Amazon ash – making the material itself part of the story. Thirty-three prints of each design were created, and signed and numbered by the artist. Due to the fragile nature of the materials used, please handle with extra care.
