A grant-making organisation, The Clothworkers’ Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of people and communities in the UK, particularly those facing disadvantage and marginalisation.

The foundation’s support for Breaking Barriers began in 2021, with a grant of £100,000 over three years. This contribution played a significant role in enabling Breaking Barriers to expand our programmes to Birmingham and Manchester, moving beyond London for the first time.

Last year, the foundation awarded Breaking Barriers a further grant of £300,000, as part of its flagship Economic Equity Programme. This fund is designed to support partners that are addressing inequalities on an individual, community or systemic level. The unrestricted grant will be key in supporting Breaking Barriers’ strategic vision of operating as a national organisation.

Nelly Koko-Konan, the foundation’s Proactive Programmes Manager, has been instrumental in driving the relationship with Breaking Barriers. In this video interview, Nelly discusses how the values of the two organisations align, what meaningful employment means to her, and the value of lived experience in the charity sector.
