Thomas shares his story of gaining employment at IKEA, building his confidence and establishing a new life in the UK.
Meet Thomas, a remarkable individual whose journey embodies resilience, hope, and the power of community. After arriving in the UK in 2023, Thomas faced the difficult reality of starting over in a new country. Like many others, he struggled to find his footing until he was matched with Rebecca, his Advisor at Breaking Barriers.
With her guidance, empathy, and encouragement, Thomas secured a permanent role at IKEA. The impact has gone far beyond employment: he’s gained new confidence, improved his mental health, and found purpose and stability in his new life.
But Thomas’s story doesn’t end there. A passionate football referee, he’s also found belonging on the pitch, connecting with his community and giving back in a way that matters to him. With almost a decade of experience as a postman in Hong Kong, he’s now working towards his UK driving licence, determined to keep moving forward and contributing to his new home.
