We are delighted to share with you our annual report which is a snapshot of our year and the impact our work has had on refugees living in London. The past year has been another incredibly exciting twelve months for the charity – we have launched new programmes, expanded existing ones and supported 443 refugees on their integration journeys. 177 of those progressed into employment, education or volunteering and we are continually inspired by their determination and appetite to contribute to the country they now call home.

During 2018, we welcomed seven new colleagues and worked with 130 volunteers to deliver our vital employment and education services. We are proud to have won the London Lord Mayor’s Inclusive Employment Award, and the HR in Law Award for our partnership with Mayer Brown LLP, as well as Matthew being recognised by Forbes as one of Europe’s leading social entrepreneurs in its annual ‘30 under 30’ awards. Throughout the year, we also received some great press in The Guardian, Huffington Post and Time Out.

At Breaking Barriers, we continue to focus on providing the best employment and education support for our clients and try to seek new innovative ways to partner with the private sector to help refugee integration. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us in 2017-2018. Our success has been driven by the team’s passion and determination to provide the best support for our clients, and our strong partnerships with visionary donors and businesses who share our mission.

A key strategic aim over the next three years is to increase our data-driven programming to enable us to provide the most effective support for our clients. We are capturing a huge amount of data and believe we can use this to add huge value not only to how our programmes are designed and operate, but also to improve understanding of refugees’ needs within the sector.

We are committed to expanding our services to fully meet the needs of refugees in London and are supporting significantly more clients every year towards that goal. At the same time, we continually refine our model to be more scaleable and, in due course, allow delivery in other cities in the UK and elsewhere. Our ultimate ambition is to ensure that every refugee in the UK has access to appropriate employment support to help aid their integration into work, education and the community. Although a bold ambition, we think it is achievable. Thank you again for all your continued support.
