Emma
Emma has been using her knowledge as a lawyer to help refugees break into the legal sector.
Our amazing volunteers come from a huge range of backgrounds, cultures and industries.
Volunteering at Breaking Barriers is an exciting opportunity to support refugees into meaningful employment.
We have a wide range of in-person and remote volunteer roles across Birmingham, Glasgow, Greater Manchester, Liverpool and London. These include providing advice and guidance, digital skills training, and mentoring as well as volunteering as an English teacher.
If you’d like to find out more, please contact [email protected], otherwise scroll down to see our roles and visit our FAQ page.
As part of our commitment to safeguarding, all volunteers undergo screening and reference checks and will be provided with comprehensive safeguarding training. It should also be noted that for some roles, we also carry out basic DBS checks.
I find it very rewarding to help someone search and apply for jobs and create a CV. The job market is very competitive and it can feel very overwhelming for those that don’t speak English as a first language. I see the struggles people face and I love to do my best to guide others to prosperity and happiness.

Volunteer opportunities
We offer lots of flexibility, and volunteering roles can be both in-person and remote. Some roles require specific qualifications (such as teaching), but the majority are roles that anyone could help with. If you are motivated to be involved in your community and support people of refugee background, come and get involved!
