In April, four new English classes started in WeWork buildings in Shoreditch and Southbank, which means 26 Breaking Barriers clients are working on their English skills to improve their chances of employment.

From April 21 to 23, thirteen Breaking Barriers students spent the weekend working on their English and developing their customer service skills. After learning the principles of customer service and reviewing how to anticipate a customer’s needs, deal with requests and complaints and communicate with customers over the telephone, the students spent Sunday putting these skills into practice through role plays with volunteer actors. From angry customers trying to return ancient products without a receipt to confused customers overwhelmed by the choice of electronics, the students were confronted with a variety of challenging scenarios.

100% of the students reported increased confidence to work in a customer service environment in the UK and 89% said they made new friends and felt motivated to achieve their goals. A big thank you to the teacher, students and all of the volunteers for such a successful weekend!!
