Q&A from Arash
'...don’t think of refugees as people who are not able to handle or manage things. Believe in them and give them a chance.'
To celebrate Refugee Week, we held a Q&A with one of our clients Arash, an Iranian born refugee who was forced to flee his country and arrived in the UK in 2020, where he was introduced to Breaking Barriers by his Oasis Church in Birmingham. Below was his response to our questions.
How has BB supported you on your employment journey?
BB helped me write my CV which helped me find a job. I’ve received great advices from my employment advisor which was so useful, and still is, for my future career and education.
If you could give employers one piece of advice when hiring people from a refugee background, what would it be?
I’d like to say don’t think of refugees as people who are not able to handle or manage things. Believe in them and give them a chance. You won’t regret it!
How does writing and sharing your story make you feel?
Depends, sometimes it is helpful because it reminds me of how many difficulties I have been through and how I’m now stronger. Also it feels good when people hear my story and are inspired.
What words of support would you give to those going through similar circumstances?
I’d like to say “ never give up, find your strengths, keep going and build your life in the best way possible”.
What goals/ambitions do you have for the future?
I can see a good future for myself. I’d like to go to Aberystwyth Business university to study and become an electronic engineer.
